Digital nomads tend to be down-to-earth people. They love nature, adventure, a bit of risk, and spending time with others. When there’s a group dinner, a night out, or a weekend trip, they’re always the first to raise their hand which is exactly why they love coworking spaces so much!
Digital nomads actually love working, and they’ve got a strong sense of responsibility and organization. As you probably know, jobs come with deadlines, and those aren’t easy to hit when you’re living a stone’s throw from the beach.
Beaches, cocktails, hanging out with friends that’s all just a small slice of nomad life. Really, just a small slice.
What kind of work do digital nomads actually do?
There’s a huge range of jobs digital nomads can do here are a few examples: copywriter, graphic designer, video editor, social media manager, web developer, online poker player, restaurant reviewer, influencer, online seller, and honestly… basically anything you can do with a laptop, a solid internet connection, and a cup of coffee.
A digital nomad typically works anywhere from six to twelve hours a day, depending on the workload. On their days off (yes, those exist too!), they’d much rather spend the day soaking up the Caribbean sea, exploring pyramids, or wandering through a forest than crashing on the couch and binging a TV show — even though Money Heist is one of my personal favorites!
Is it actually easy to find remote work?
Remote work isn’t exactly easy to find, especially in Italy but don’t give up, it’s totally doable. Abroad, particularly in the US, there are companies that are built entirely around remote work.
At the start, you kind of have to take whatever jobs come your way, even if they’re not your dream gig or don’t pay much. And when you’re not working, it’s worth spending that time studying and building up your skills and knowledge. Personally, in the beginning I took on pretty much every job I could get I definitely didn’t get rich off it, but I learned a ton.
Traveling on the job
We all know it: traveling is expensive. So how do digital nomads actually manage to keep moving around?
Digital nomads move based on how much they feel like traveling, how curious they are to explore and, like I mentioned, their budget. You can stay in a city for a week, a month, six months, or forever! It’s totally up to you when you decide to move on.
A lot of the time, they’ll book budget flights and rent a room in a hostel-slash-coworking space. Rent is usually pretty reasonable, and you get access to a workstation with power, wifi, water, and coffee all included.
