July is a strange month.

On one hand, there’s full-blown summer: the heat, packed airports, travel playlists, and this constant sense that everyone around you is heading somewhere. On the other hand, there’s also this urge to escape the overcrowded spots and find corners of the world that can still genuinely surprise you.

For me, July is the month of massive landscapes. The kind that make you feel small in exactly the right way. Mountains, oceans, endless roads, wild nature, and places where time seems to move slower.

If you’re looking for ideas on where to travel in July, here are some of the destinations I dream about most this time of year. Some smell like wet grass and summer rain, others like dust, wind, and nights spent under the stars.

Azores, Portugal

The Azores feel like they were dreamed up by someone obsessed with the color green.

Volcanic lakes, hydrangeas everywhere, massive cliffs, and clouds that change shape every five minutes. July is one of the best times to visit because the days are long, the weather’s mild, and nature is in full bloom.

They’re perfect if you love slow travel, road trips, and that feeling of being far from everything without having to cross half the planet to get there.

And there’s just something about the Atlantic Ocean that always manages to clear my head.

Pantanal, Brazil

The Pantanal is one of those places that feels like it belongs in a documentary.

July marks the start of dry season, and it’s one of the best times to spot wildlife: jaguars, caimans, capybaras, toucans, and an insane amount of life everywhere you look.

It’s a completely different kind of Brazil trip than what usually comes to mind. Wilder, quieter, deeply immersed in real, raw nature. Perfect if you love safaris and places that haven’t been talked about to death yet.

Mongolia

Mongolia is space. Space everywhere. In the roads, in the landscapes, in the silence.

In July, the steppes turn a deep green, the weather is perfect, and you can genuinely live the nomadic experience: sleeping in gers, riding horses for hours, and seeing skies so vast they feel almost unreal.

It’s the kind of trip that completely disconnects you from everyday noise. And maybe that’s exactly why it’s so appealing.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of those destinations that surprises you more than you’d expect.

Mostar feels frozen in time, Sarajevo has this incredibly deep soul, and the landscapes shift between mountains, turquoise rivers, and quiet villages. In July, the weather is perfect for exploring the country on a road trip, stopping maybe by a waterfall or along one of the Balkan rivers.

It’s a destination that blends beauty with memory. And maybe that’s exactly what makes it so intense.

Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland

Ireland in July means wind, cliffs, and pubs full of music.

The Wild Atlantic Way runs the entire length of Ireland’s west coast and is one of the best road trips in Europe. Endless scenic roads, ocean everywhere, and that slightly melancholic light that makes everything feel cinematic.

Don’t expect the classic 90-degree beach summer here. The beauty of this trip is exactly the opposite. Hoodies, sudden rain, Guinness, and sunsets that don’t arrive until impossibly late.

Okavango Delta, Botswana

Some places seem to run on a completely different rhythm. The Okavango Delta is one of them.

In July, water floods the delta and turns it into an incredible ecosystem. It’s one of the best times for safaris: elephants, lions, hippos, and African sunsets that almost look too beautiful to be real.

It’s the kind of trip that leaves you carrying silence and awe around with you for weeks afterward.

Indian Himalayas

The Indian Himalayas in July are intense, spiritual, and completely unlike anywhere else.

Some areas move into monsoon season, but regions like Ladakh remain perfect to visit: high-altitude deserts, Buddhist monasteries, scenic mountain roads, and enormous skies.

It’s a trip that often ends up going a lot more inward than expected. Maybe because standing in front of mountains that massive, everything else automatically shrinks into perspective.

The Dolomites

The Dolomites in July are one of the most beautiful places that exist. Full stop.

The meadows are lush and green, the trails are perfect for both long treks and easy walks, and the crisp air feels like actual therapy after weeks of city heat. It’s the ideal place to slow down.

To wake up early, have breakfast with a mountain view, and suddenly feel like a much more balanced person than you probably actually are.

And let’s be honest: few things beat dinner at a mountain hut after a full day out in nature.

In my opinion, July is the perfect month for trips that make you feel small in front of the world.

The kind full of nature, long roads, massive skies, and moments where you finally stop checking your phone every three minutes.

Whether it’s a safari in Botswana, a road trip through Ireland, or a week in the mountains of the Dolomites, July has this beautiful ability to pull you completely out of your routine.

And maybe that’s exactly what we all need, every once in a while.
